You’re about to embark on the next masterpiece of retro-tinged musical mayhem, so you fire up your DAW and create a blank project. I’m going to stop my philosophical meanderings on the appeal of Synthwave there, because the simple fact is that lots of people love the sound of hazy synths and driving drum machines, and we at ModeAudio are no exception - join me as we dig into 5 production essentials of the genre below! Nostalgia is a driving force behind lots of forms of creative practice, but it’s especially important in the world of Synthwave, based as it is around the sound of classic 80s film and video game soundtracks - even if it’s a nostalgia for a time that was never actually lived through by those involved! The ability to access media of all kinds from across the ages at the click of a mouse has brought about a re-evaluation of and obsession with the past, putting young musicians in touch with artistic trends that have long since fallen out of fashion. Today is the turn of Synthwave, which is one of those genres that surely never would have existed had the internet not evolved into the dizzying repository of human endeavour that it is today. You may even have one around as it is sometimes delivered with a headset.Welcome back to my Production Essentials series, where I seek to uncover what makes popular genres tick. Usually a USB soundcard of a few € (like 5-10) does the job. We'll be glad to help you to setup your master and cue being both stereo. So please let's know what outputs the controller has (if any). As Cross LE is added by the device supplier we don't have much knowledge on each device. The 'mix' helps to listen to both master deck as to an other deck to set cue or to beatmatch. The crossfader helps to have just one deck going to master out. After this is goes to the 'mix' knobfader which mixes the master volume with the headphone volume to headphone out. When headphone button enabled for a deck the sound of the deck goes to headphone volume knob.

Master sound of a deck goes by Cross fader and deck fader to main knob fader to main output. In Audio preferences you should have selected 'split mono'. If you have two soundcards you can in most case combine them using ASIO4ALL as a virtual soundcard.

You may use a DJ-splitter, but when using a PC this mostly is not the ideal solution as you get 2 mono signals being duplicated for L/R per output. While you may do this I'll try to explain the cue as an edit of this post. Please check in downloads section for a Cross version that is a couple of years more recent. After all, I am a rookie in the DJ arena.Ĭould I have some assistance from the technical team or other members of the forum? It could be that I am missing something fundamental. I did try to swap them to see if it could fix the problem, to no avail. I have made sure that the cables are in the right order. I can hear the track from the right through the headphones if:īUT any of those “solutions” will send the sound of that deck through the speakers, and therefore defeating the purpose of cueing. I press the button of headphones but I cannot hear it through the headphones (actually, what I hear is the the deck from the left, although the headphone button on that side is not on. The crossfader is all the way to the left. So for example, I am playing through the speakers the track on the left, and I want to cue the other track through the headphones. I am using a splitter audio cable (cable DJ) (. I will try to keep it short and to the point: I will use this thread to explain my problem with IOn Discover DJ. Please let me know if you would like to to provide any additional info, and thanks for the help. Like I said, pressing the cue/monitor button does give me sound in just the headphones, but I cannot monitor a deck independent of the volume knob for that deck which does not make sense to me (why have a separate virtual cue level knob?). I have the mode set to dual stereo, with output one being the soundblaster and output 2 being the UCA222 (phones). I am using a soundblaster 4 for the master output and a UCA222 USB sound card for the cue, I have both of them set up using ASIO4All.

However, when I attempt to do this and listen to the cue, the volume knob for a given deck seems to control both the cue volume and the master volume for that deck at the same time despite the separate virtual cue level knob on the software interface. What I would like to do is leave the crossfader in the middle and mix purely with the volume knobs for each deck. I cannot listen to the cue for a deck by itself with the crossfader set in the middle. I have gotten everything working for the most part, but I just have one issue.

For some reason I cannot post in the technical support forum that I think this topic should go into as I am being told that my serial number is invalid.Īnyways, I purchased an Ion Discover DJ a few days ago which came with what I think is Cross LE 1.3.2.
